Job Description:
The Animal Care Specialist/Adoption Counselor is responsible for the overall care of all the animals within the shelter.
The responsibilities will vary based on the current needs of the shelter and it programs.
Associate must be a team player, that can work a flexible schedule, ensures that all animals on campus have access to the Five Freedoms (Freedom from hunger or thirst, discomfort, pain or injury, express normal behavior, and freedom of fear and distress) and promotes the mission of Salem Animal Rescue League.
Essential Functions and
Responsibilities:
Must be able to handle and restrain cats and dogs with a wide variety of personalities and behavioral traits effectively and in a humane manner.
Ensure animals receive the best quality care including feeding, cleaning, exercising, socializing, enrichment, training, behavior observations and health/welfare monitoring Clean, disinfect, and wash cages and other animal related areas to include overall upkeep of shelter property.
Provide food and water for all animals.
Medicate, bathe and groom animals as needed or directed.
Manage animal intake, stay, and adoption records using shelter animal record applications/systems.
Assist with surrender of an animals in an empathetic and compassionate manner that is free from judgment.
Must have excellent customer service and communication skills with the ability to multi-task.
Provide assistance and guidance to volunteers as well as assist with veterinary processes.
Support and assist with shelter activities, fundraisers, and events.
Perform other duties as required.
Qualifications:
High School graduate or GED Must be physically capable of performing all duties of animal care to include some heavy lifting.
Prior experience with animals in a humane/rescue organization preferred.
Must possess a positive demeanor, demonstrate strong verbal and written communication skills, and have the ability to work well both as part of a team and independently Must have excellent administrative skills, be highly organized, motivated and work well under pressure Must be computer proficient, including having a working knowledge of Microsoft Office Programs and the ability to learn new programs quickly Strong interpersonal skills and professionalism, with a focus on excellent animal and customer service required.
Must be able to work a full time 40 hours a week schedule that includes a weekend day.

The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
